The film follows teacher Pavel "Pasha" Talankin who refused to comply with Putin's mandate to teach anti-Ukraine lessons. The director highlighted the parallels between Putin's Russia and America's situation in his acceptance speech. He also mentioned the most dangerous moment of the filmmaking process when he tried to leave Russia with all of his belongings.
