Apple is set to announce the low-cost MacBook, which is reportedly aimed at two key markets: iPhone users who don't currently own a Mac, and laptop users who are not willing to pay a four-figure price for a MacBook. The starting price for the MacBook could be as low as $599, a significant deal given that it currently costs $999 to buy the cheapest MacBook Air. The company is also targeting laptop users with a price difference between a Chromebook and a budget Windows laptop. Despite these compromises, a poll showed that the 8GB RAM limitation was not a deal-breaker. The new MacBook could bring a lot of people into the Mac universe, potentially beneficial for Apple in the short term but potentially beneficial in the longer term.
