McFarlane, who worked at the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, had previously been fired from his position with Cal Fire and had previously worked there since 2000. He was also accused of attempting to strangle Divodi Lessa, who fled the room and threatened to file a domestic violence report if she filed a complaint, before he grabbed a gun and then shot her dead.
