Paramount Skydance CEO David Ellison announced plans to merge Paramount+ and HBO Max into a single streaming service. The merger, which would bring together a wide range of film, TV, and news assets, is expected to upend the Hollywood landscape and further consolidate other major streaming platforms like Disney+ and Hulu. However, critics have warned that the merger could result in significant job cuts and employee anxieties over layoffs and wage reductions. Concerns have also been raised over editorial independence, particularly in light of the Ellison family's political connections to Donald Trump.
