New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli has estimated that Wall Street bonuses will reach a record $49.2 billion in 2025, a 9% increase from 2024, according to an annual estimate. Di Napoli praised the financial sector's strong performance, despite ongoing domestic and international upheavals and ongoing conflict in the Middle East. He also highlighted that these gains are good news for taxpayers as they help fund key public services. This comes as Mayor Zohran Mamdani is considering introducing a wealth tax or raising property rates to cover a $12 billion deficit in Gotham's finances. DiNapolis warned that while there is slower job growth and geopolitical conflicts, New York City remains the nation's financial capital.
