Chris Nanos, the sheriff in the search for Nancy Guthrie, is facing scrutiny from local officials over his disciplinary record and allegations of perjury over comments made during a deposition. The Pima County Board of Supervisors in Arizona voted to invoke a territorial era law, A.R.S. § 11-253, which allows for the board to make county employees to testify under oath about their duties. Nanos is expected to be served these questions on April 7. The board does not have the authority to remove Nanos from office but can put public pressure on him to resign. Nananos was suspended eight times between July 1979 and June 1982 for a total of 32 days, including a 15-day suspension in March 1982 for "excessive force". He also received written reprimands on three different occasions and left work without pay three separate times for tardiness.
