Stephen Colbert, winner of the Emmy for Outstanding Talk Series for "The Late Show With Stephen Colbert," is collaborating with the ‘Lord of the Rings’ franchise in a new project. He will co-write the script for the franchise’s next installment, alongside his son, Peter McGee, and original trilogy director Peter Jackson. The collaboration was announced on social media in honor of Tolkien Reading Day. The film's plot is based on chapters of "The Fellowship of the Ring" that didn't make it into Jackson's 2001 adaptation. The project is set to be released in 2027. Despite some controversy over the project's development, this is not the first time Colbert has collaborated with Jackson.
