The National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) has criticized the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for its decision to review Disney and ABC stations' licenses over a joke by Jimmy Kimmel. The NAB's CEO, Curtis LeGeyt, stated that the move created significant uncertainty for broadcasters and that the FCC's broadcast license renewal process must be grounded in predictability, fairness and transparency. This comes after a mock-roast delivered by Kimmel included a joke that suggested that First Lady Melania Trump had the "glow of an expectant widow". This comes amid calls for Kimmel's dismissal following the attempted assassination of President Donald Trump. Not all on the right are behind the criticism, with Texas Sen. Ted Cruz arguing that the government should not censor speech.
