The 'poo-nami' from Mexico is threatening to shut down one of America's most popular beaches, Coronado, California. The area has been polluted by gallons of wastewater from Mexico, with as many as 38 million per day. The Tijuana River is the source of this fecal flood, which has led to the closure of beaches in front of the historic Hotel delCoronado for 129 days during peak summer. The problem is also dangerous due to the hydrogen sulfide gas, which can cause respiratory issues and cognitive issues. The US is working with Mexico to upgrade their wastewater infrastructure and expand a facility on this side of the border that was built years ago.
