Germany is expected to have used its natural resources for 2026, according to ecological researchers of the Global Footprint Network. The researchers estimate that if everyone on Earth consumes as many resources and emits as much CO2 as Germany, the Earth's annual biocapacity would be exhausted within the first third of the year. Germany's high use of fossil fuels is blamed for this, particularly by energy-intensive industrial sectors, the building sector, road transport and industrial livestock farming. The Global Footprints Network will announce the official global date on World Environment Day on November 5.
