The San Diego Tijuana International Jazz Festival, which debuted in 2024 with nearly $400,000 in seed money from Qualcomm co-founder Irwin M. Jacobs, will expand to four days for its 2026 edition. The event will include free concerts in downtown Tijuana and downtown San Diego, along with a paid concert at California Center for the Arts, Escondido. The lineup includes drum dynamo Brian Blade, five-time Grammy Award-winner Danilo Pérez, and Panamanian-bred piano great Danilo Bérez. The festival will present performances by the seven-piece Mingus Dynasty, which pays tribute to modern jazz pioneer Charles Mingus. Despite the growing festival, it has been forced to cut back some program goals due to looming city budget cuts.
