Japanese megabank bringing 2,000 jobs to Charlotte picks Uptown HQ

Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC) has chosen 301 South College, the former One Wells Fargo Center, as its second U.S. headquarters in Charlotte, for 2,000 employees within six years. The move will help Uptown's struggling office market. Since announcing its move, SMBC is already hiring over 70 roles and plans to invest $50.5 million locally by fall 2027.
