County Championship: Sussex wrap up victory over Leicestershire
Published on April 6, 2026.
Cash-strapped Sussex secured a 222-run victory over Leicestershire in the County Championship, easing the pain of their points deduction imposed upon by the England and Wales Cricket Board. The victory was a successful start to the season for Ollie Robinson's team, which arrived at Grace Road at a 12-point disadvantage compared to the other Division One counties as a condition of the financial rescue package agreed with the board over the winter. After Leicesterhire fell short of the 481 last-innings target, Sussex took 22 points to climb out of the bottom two at the first attempt. Stevie Eskinazi and Ben Cox shared a 103-run sixth-wicket stand to keep the contest alive beyond lunch, before Sussex bowled out for 258 in the fifth over of the afternoon. The win was largely attributed to a century for Tom Clark and five wickets each for Robinson and Crocombe in the first innings.
