The latest episode of 'Pet Pals TV' has highlighted a rise in scams using artificial intelligence to target pet owners searching for lost animals. The scammers use manipulated images to demand payment for fake emergency medical procedures. These scams exploit the emotional vulnerability of pet owners by tracking public posts about missing animals and using fabricated stories and AI-generated "proof" of injury. The scam involves a Florida couple receiving a text showing their missing puppy undergoing surgery, which they paid $1,900 through digital payment apps. Pet Pals investigative reporter and director of communications at Noah's Animal Hospital, Tom Dock, and host Patty Spitler, recommend microchipping as the primary method for identifying lost animals and debunking scams.
