The Yankees suffered their first loss of the 2026 season, with Cal Raleigh's walk-off single giving the Mariners a 2-1 victory over them in the ninth inning. The win came off of Paul Blackburn, who pitched a clean eighth inning but allowed three groundball singles in the final frame, including Raleigh's, setting up a winning run for Seattle. Despite a slow start to the season, the Mariners' pitching staff managed to limit damage. Ryan Weathers made his Yankees debut and held Seattle to one run over four innings and 77 pitches, while Fernando Cruz was the team's most impressive pitcher, with his signature splitter. The Yankees have allowed only three runs this season, thanks to two season-opening shutouts against the Giants.
