Michiganders have planned to take more trips in 2026 than 2025, according to a survey by VisitDetroit, the metro area's visitor and convention bureau. The survey also found that only 26% of travelers planned to purchase travel insurance. The AAA had anticipated a rise in vacation intent and urged travelers to invest in travel insurance due to uncertainty and geopolitical tensions. However, the same day the survey results were released, the U.S. Department of State announced it was taking "historic action" to assist American citizens stranded in the Middle East. The travel industry is trying to assess what this means for its business.
