Former U.S. Open winner, Gary Woodland, revealed his battle with post-traumatic stress disorder following a brain surgery in 2023 that left him struggling to overcome the emotional and mental toll of the disease. Woodland had successfully undergone the life-or-death procedure to remove a brain lesion, but the emotional toll of this operation left him with severe anxiety and hyper-awareness. He expressed his desire to come forward with his struggles to encourage others struggling with similar issues. The PGA Tour has since implemented security protocols to help alleviate some issues while on the course. Despite doctors' suggestion that he avoid high-stress environments like professional golf, Woodland said he has never considered leaving the sport.
