Scientists have found that deliberate hunting is the primary cause behind recent attacks on "cannibal" killer whales, suggesting that our understanding of this species is falling behind the pace of evolution. Researchers found a fin with bite marks from another killer whale off the coast of Russia in 2022 and two years later, researchers found another within miles of the first. The findings suggest that these animals are different from each other and that they should be divided into several subspecies. However, as the populations diverge, these two groups may be evolving into entirely separate species due to increasing global temperatures.
