The Carmel Police Department received several calls about a white Jeep driving on Lake Mahopac, where witnesses reported seeing a female driver enter the lake from Swan Cove and then driving in a north/northeast direction. The vehicle was found partially submerged about 30 yards from the shore of the lake and unresponsive after rescue drivers removed it from the vehicle. The driver, a 55-year-old woman from Westchester, was transported to Putnam Hospital Center but later died. The identity of the driver is being withheld until the woman's family is notified.
