Working moms are building community beyond parenting

A new type of community is emerging for working moms who want to connect beyond parenting and their careers. The Breadwinners, launched in 2025 by Alexis Contos, aims to replace isolation and guilt among working mothers with community. California-based group, momsIRL, hosts "early-bird" dance parties where moms can relax and unwreathe. These organizations reflect a shift in how women see motherhood, with many rejecting the idea that parenting should encompass all aspects of their identity.
