Judge allows East Palestine residents to intervene in train derailment lawsuit

A federal judge has allowed East Palestine, Ohio, residents to intervene in a lawsuit against Norfolk Southern, following a train derailment in 2023. Independent tests revealed dangerous contamination in the area, which contradicts claims from the company and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) that the region is safe. The federal government sued Norfolk Southern and agreed on a deal to cover cleanup costs and provide health monitoring. However, East Palestine residents have been raising concerns about toxins in their community. Independent testing has also been found to contain high levels of dioxins, which have been ignored by the EPA.
