Rudina Hajdari, acting Program Director Director of the International Institute for Global Affairs at the Eurasia Group, has written that the current model of democracy is broken. She argues that it is failing due to the rigid implementation of democracy, which has been left out of context. This failure is not isolated but global, with challenges including 9/11, the financial crisis, COVID, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and the Iran war. The author suggests that democracy rests on universal principles that can be applied anywhere. The failure of this model is attributed to fear, anxiety, identity, and memory. The solution is to rethink who defines solutions, rather than repeat the old model.
