‘It’s still surreal:’ One year later, Longwood neighborhood rebuilds after tornado

A year ago, an EF-2 tornado ripped through the Whispering Winds neighborhood in Longwood, Florida, leaving a trail of destruction behind. The tornado damaged more than 50 homes and destroyed one home on Blue Iris Place, causing it to collapse while a couple inside took shelter. The aftermath of the tornado left significant amounts of debris and public works, roads, and stormwater staff working tirelessly to clear the area. One resident, Simone Behar, described the experience as "still surreal," while others have taken steps to rebuild their homes and buildings. The community is now unrecognizable, with Behar's fence and trees destroyed.
