Walt Weiss, a former Rockies player and manager, has become the new manager of the Atlanta Braves. Weiss, known for his aggressive stance during a baseball brawl between the Braves and the Angels in Anaheim, California on April 8, sparked internet fame with his tackling of a big-man named Jorge Soler. Despite retiring in 2000, Weiss served as a special assistant and instructor with the Rockies from 2002 to 2008 and was Atlanta’s bench coach for eight years before replacing Brian Snitker as manager. Weiss played 14 years in the majors and was named American League rookie of the year in 1988 with the Oakland A's. He managed the Rockies for four seasons (2013-16), and was hired by former Rockies GM Dan O'Dowd after the team's 98-loss season in 2012.
