Max Plante, the top college hockey player, plans to return to Minnesota Duluth for his junior season in 2026-27 instead of joining the Detroit Red Wings organization. Plante was selected in the 2024 NHL Draft and was named a first-team All-American at the Hobey Baker Memorial Award ceremony in Las Vegas. He credits his decision to stay with Duluth due to his younger brother Victor Plante's arrival in the team next season. The Red Wings have already signed Michigan State goalie Trey Augustine to an entry-level contract after his team was eliminated in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
