A black bear has been spotted near Sandy Creek Park in Durham, North Carolina. This sighting comes as the state expands its BearWise awareness campaign. The campaign is urging people in Raleigh, Durham, and the rest of the Piedmont to learn how to live with bears. According to the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission, over 20,000 bears are living and mating in several counties and are expanding their range by about 3-to-5 miles each year. To avoid conflict with humans, the Wildlife Resource Commission has advised people to be "Bear Wise" and follow guidelines laid out by state wildlife agency experts from across the nation.
