The MTA, five unions representing signalmen, electricians, clerks, machinists, and locomotive engineers have walked away from ongoing contract negotiations between the MTA and unions. The main disagreement is over 2026 pay and the maintenance of a "real wage" increase against inflation. Unions are pushing for a 5 percent raise, while the MTA is seeking a 3 percent increase. Despite this, both parties have expressed hope that an agreement can be reached before the May 15, 11:59 p.m. deadline.
