The attack, claimed by Iranian-linked hackers, was described as a retaliatory strike connected to tensions with Iran. Cybersecurity expert Dave Hatter said the incident differed from typical cyberattacks, which typically involve hackers demanding money and restoring data, to this case where company phones and laptops running Microsoft had their data wiped. The hacker group Handala claimed responsibility for the attack, claiming it was in response to ongoing cyber warfare and the deadly bombing of a school in southern Iran.
