The New York Mets defeated the Pirates 11-7 on Opening Day, marking the first of at least 162 tests for their new-look lineup. The Mets, who had lost their previous two openers, improved to 42-23 on Opening day, with a winning percentage of the best among MLB teams. The team's new additions included Carson Benge and Francisco Alvarez, Luis Robert Jr. and Freddy Peralta, who were removed at 80 pitches. The Pirates managed to recover on the fifth and sixth innings, with Ryan O'Hearn homered in the sixth to level the Mets' lead.
