Former Fox News host Steve Hilton will face Democrat Xavier Becerra in the race to succeed California Gov. Gavin Newsom. The general election was called one week after polls closed, with 91% of the vote counted. Despite California's all-party primary system, Becerara and Hilton advanced to the November general election as the top two finishers. The Associated Press reported that Becerre and Hilton were closely followed by Hilton, who received 25.0% of votes. The Los Angeles mayoral primary was not called until six days after polling closed, leading to socialist Democrat Nithya Raman to advance to the runoff election. Billionaire climate activist and Democrat Tom Steyer finished in third place with 22.5%. An Emerson College poll showed Becerr leading the pack with 28% support, and Steyer trailing behind with 22% and Hilton with 21%.
