New Mexico film workers have reported that production has slowed in 2026, despite national praise. The New Mexico Film Office reported 50 productions in 2024, while this year it has reported 13. This comes as Albuquerque was named one of the best cities in the nation for filmmakers. Business representative for the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees Local 480, Dooner, said the industry has slowed after a record year for production and employment in 2024. He said the slowdown is affecting 2,000 union members, many of whom have taken second jobs to support their families. Nevada Harmon, owner of Home Local 505, said she had to shift her business to serve a different clientele and now sells real estate at Keller Williams to offset lost business income.
