The Will County Planning and Zoning Commission voted 4-1 against plans for a 6,100 acre, 600-megawatt solar farm near Manhattan. The project will now go to the Will County Board's executive committee for review, with a vote set to take place on May 21. Despite the commission's continued opposition, Earthrise Energy officials remained optimistic about the project. The company's director of development, Rob Kalbouss, stated that they are highly confident in the strength of their application and the many benefits it will provide for Will County. Steven Becker, an attorney representing 16 homeowners near the proposed solar farm, argued that Earthrise's application was incomplete and should be denied. He also argued that the company did not properly identify wetlands that have been farmed.
