Germany's Federal Intelligence Service (BND) has accused Russia of hiding the true cost of the war in Ukraine. The BND claims that Russia's budget deficit in 2025 is over 2.36 trillion roubles ($30.45 billion) higher than officially stated and that Western sanctions are having a significant impact on the Russian economy. This comes alongside lower oil and gas revenues due to a decrease in global prices. The Kremlin has previously stated that falling revenues and a growing budget deficit are necessary due to macroeconomic stability.
