Red Sox first baseman, Rafael Casas, has been shut down from hitting activities due to a soreness in his ribs while playing. The club also revealed that Casas has a strained left intercostal, a muscle connected to the ribs. This setback could further complicate his recovery. Casas is already on the 10-day injured list recovering from a ruptured patellar tendon in his left knee last year. The Toronto Blue Jays have returned former Rule 5 pick Angel Bastardo to the Red Sox. Red Sox left-hander Patrick Sandoval will begin a rehab assignment with the Portland Sea Dogs on Sunday.
