Ghazi Shami, founder and CEO of Empire Records, has joined the executive team of Watermelon Pictures as an executive producer on American Doctor, Poh Si Teng’s Sundance documentary about three American physicians who travel to Gaza to provide medical care during a war. The collaboration follows Empire's collaboration with Watermel Pictures on Palestine 36, a period drama set during the Arab revolt against British colonial rule. Shami previously worked on Annemarie Jacir's Oscar-shortlisted drama, and Empire compiled a 36-track companion soundtrack for the movie. Watermelon will be releasing American Doctor in North America this summer and will make an awards push for the documentary.
