Uber is becoming increasingly prominent in the field of autonomous vehicles, following the sale of its in-house autonomous vehicle development unit in 2020. The company has partnered with dozens of autonomous vehicle technology companies across delivery, drones, trucking, and robotaxis. In a recent deal, Uber will invest $300 million in Rivian and will buy 10,000 fully autonomous R2 robotaxis ahead of a planned rollout in San Francisco and Miami in 2028, with the option to buy up to 40,000 more starting in 2030.
