A massive sinkhole on South Kihei Road near Kamaole Beach Park II has caused significant storm damage, but businesses have reopened following the storm. The sinkhole was caused by a powerful Kona low, which left trees, the sidewalk, and a large section of roadway completely destroyed. Bartender and musician Eammon McKinney expressed concern over the damage, while businesses are dealing with challenges such as internet and computer functions. Despite the damage and heavy rainfall, residents attribute the intensity and speed of the rainfall to the severity of the storm's rapid response. The area around North Kihei remains a muddy mess and several businesses are still closed.
