Australia has become the first team to qualify for the 2027 women's World Cup in Brazil, following a 2-1 victory over North Korea in the quarterfinals of the Asian Cup. The Matildas have played in every World Cup since 1995. The 32-team World Cup will be held in Brazil and will be the first time the women's tournament will be played in South America. The Asian Cup will determine the six automatic qualifiers from the Asian Football Confederation. However, North Korea and other teams that lost in quarterfinals will have a play-in tournament to determine the remaining two places.
