Streaming Subscriptions, Pay-TV, Theatrical Box Office and Home Video Drive European Audiovisual Industry Revenue to $165 Billion

The European Audiovisual sector generated €142 billion ($164.7 billion) in revenues in 2024, largely due to consumer spending, which accounted for over 50% via streaming subscriptions, pay-TV, cinema tickets and home video. The report also revealed that European film production reached a record high in 2024 with 2,523 feature films produced across 36 markets. The study also found that audiences in Europe spend most of their streaming time watching series rather than films, indicating that episodic storytelling has become the dominant format in the streaming economy. However, European players accounted for only 12% of international entertainment sector revenue, far behind the U.S.
