A federal judge dismissed a class action lawsuit filed by former Indiana basketball players against the university, alleging that a former team physician performed medically unnecessary and abusive rectal examinations. The lawsuit was dismissed on grounds that the players’ claims were subject to a two-year statute of limitations. The plaintiffs have 30 days to appeal the ruling to the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals. The judge ruled in favor of the school and former team trainer Tim Garl in their motion to dismiss the lawsuit. An independent investigation into the allegations was conducted by Jones Day, which concluded that Dr. Brad Bomba Sr. did not act in "bad faith" or "improper purpose" in conducting digital rectal exams.
