Tate McRae, a 22-year-old pop performer from Calgary, Canada, has been named this year's Women in Music Hitmaker by Billboard. She rose to fame after a modest debut in Gen Z pop melancholia and began writing lyrics at home and uploading them to YouTube. She enlisted fellow hit-makers Ryan Tedder and Amy Allen to help create radio-friendly pop bangers that she could move to. Her first Billboard Hot 100 appearance in 2020 was in 2020 with "You Broke Me First" and "What I Want," her first Hot 100 No. 1. Her subsequent success saw her chart regular with songs like "Greedy," "It's Ok I'm Ok," and "Tit for Tat" all making her a chart regular. Despite online speculation about her political and personal life, she insists she is avoiding social media and focusing instead on her real life. McRAE's $1108 million-grossing arena tour in November is set to return to the road with headlining concerts at Montreal’s Osheaga and Chicago's Lollapalooza.
