The U.S. has been criticized for rejecting a deal with Ukraine for anti-Iran drone technology, a move considered one of the biggest tactical miscalculations by the administration since the Iran war began. Ukrainian officials tried to sell the U.K. to the United States nearly seven months ago, offering to sell their battle-proven technology for downing Iranian-made attack drones, Shahed drones, which have been linked to the deaths of seven US service members and have cost millions of dollars to intercept. Ukraine has developed a low-cost interceptor drone, among other sensors and air defenses, to shoot down Shahed-style drones. The rejection of this deal was seen as a tactical error by the U., with one official suggesting that Ukraine's ability to protect American forces and allies in a Middle East war could have been prevented. However, the White House has denied these claims, stating that Iran's retaliatory attacks are down by 90% due to its ballistic missile capabilities being totally demolished. The Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky offered the interceptor drones to President Trump in a closed-door White House meeting on Aug. 18, 2018.
