The world's largest oil transit chokepoint in the Strait of Hormuz, created by Iran's ability to disrupt the flow of Gulf oil shipments to Europe, the United States, and Asia through the narrow shipping lanes, has caused concerns about the impact of escalating Middle East conflict on supplies. Mariano Mariano, Senior Graphics Editor at Reuters Graphics, currently part of one of the world's most awarded teams, led the Graphic and Storytelling team at El País in Madrid from 2019 to 2023. He has previously worked at The Wall Street Journal, The Times in New York, and Univision News in Miami, where he led the Infographic and Data Visualization Department at El Mundo and El Pais for 14 years.
