Texas Tech University System Chancellor, Brandon Creighton, has spoken about controversial curriculum changes, which primarily address how gender and sexuality are taught. His tenure in the Texas Legislature, including removing discriminatory DEI offices from all campuses across the state, has influenced his current position. Creighton was a state senator and chairman of the Senate Education Committee over policy and funding for 34 four-year institutions and 50 community colleges. He also revised tenure, and revised funding mechanisms for higher education. The curriculum review process involves a Board of Regents meeting, input from faculty, deans, provosts, and students, and a deliberative process that takes hours to complete.
