William Frederick Wateley, a 60-year-old man convicted of arson in 2018, has been released on bond while prosecutors decide whether to retry his case. The judge has ordered a new trial after concerns were raised about the reliability of the fire investigation used at his original trial. Wateleys, who has spent nearly a decade in prison for the arson conviction, maintains he did not start the fire and has always maintained his innocence. The original fire expert's work was incomplete and the fire expert did not investigate the inside of the house that was burned, according to defense attorneys. The new trial date is set for Aug. 10.
