The "Riders Up" tradition at the Kentucky Derby allows celebrities and athletes to participate in the start of the Run for the Roses, a tradition that began with Olympian Simone Biles at the 2025 Kentucky Derby and Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes at the 149th Kentucky Derby on May 6, 2023. Legendary trainer D. Wayne Lukas and rapper Jack Harlow have also done the Riders Up calls. Retired jockey and legendary Kentucky Derby winner Pat Day will be the announcer for the 152nd race on May 2, 2026. The tradition has seen many athletes and celebrities participating in this tradition throughout the years.
