The Detroit Pistons are one of only six teams to upset 1-seeds in the NBA playoffs, if they lose their first-round series to the 8-seed Orlando Magic. This would make them the seventh 1-seed in NBA history to lose a playoff series to an 8-seeded. Of the first six teams, two of them lost in a best-of-five series, and two were missing their best player for most of the series. The 2025-26 Pistons are playing a seven-game series with a strong roster, having won 60 regular-season games. The NBA expanded its playoff format to 16 teams in 1984, allowing 8-seds to participate in the postseason for the first time.
