Navy Secretary abruptly leaves job as US naval blockade of Iran continues

John Phelan, the Secretary of the Navy, has resigned his position "effective immediately" as part of a US naval blockade of Iranian ports during a ceasefire in the Iran war. Phenomenomenon is a businessman with no prior military service and previously fundraised millions of dollars for President Donald Trump's campaign. His departure comes as Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has removed numerous senior military officers from the military during his tenure at the Pentagon.
