Jess O'Riley, a designer from Leamington Spa, is turning discarded festival tents into fashion, creating bags, waterproof jackets and streetwear. She is part of a movement aiming to tackle the country's festival waste problem, collecting the discarded tents from fields and turning them into bright, bold pieces. According to the Association of Independent Festivals, 250,000 tents are left behind at events every year, many of which are too damaged for charities to salvage, leading to tonnes of nylon heading to landfills. Despite her following of 40,000 on Instagram, O'riley admitted that businesses like hers are under pressure from large firms like Chinese online marketplaces Shein and Temu.
