Abby Zawadzki, a four-year varsity player for St. Charles North, has been taking over as a pitcher this season after three years at first base. The senior right-hander, who was listed as a pitchers/first baseman her previous three seasons, has limited opportunities due to Ava Goettel and Paige Murray ahead of her. She made her first start of the season with a one-hitter in an 8-0 nonconference victory over Burlington Central, striking out eight and walking one. Despite her new role, St.Charles North coach Tom Poulin praised Carrigan Rich's performance, highlighting her ability to pitch well and offer solid defense. Despite being an uncommitted but has several Division I programs interested in her.
